Research for Safari SZHK–a self-guided tour of urban wildlife along the Luobao and East Rail metro lines in Shenzhen and Hong Kong–kicked off with an intensive, week-long workshop. Students rode the train, consulted often incomplete data, and drew their own maps through lively discussions. Students suggested potential topics including parallel trade operations across the border, the economic and cultural significance of horseracing in the city, and the curious but soon-to-be extinct practice of fish and shrimp farming along the Shenzhen River.
The newest member of the Safari team is Juan Du, a professor at the University of Hong Kong Faculty of Architecture. Starting this September, Juan is leading a design studio course with Master of Architecture students to create a Safari tour for the Pearl River Delta.
