Mix & Match
The Almanor Foundation
2024-25
Mix & Match is a card game that helps community members create and steward housing that is best for their whole community. Tool Cards introduce players to creative options for housing typology, ownership arrangement, funding sources, construction methods, and governance. Players can then mix and match cards to form unexepcted combinations for their housing solution. The game also comes with a “cheat sheet” showing combinations for case studies ranging from a familiar suburban development to a crowd-funded community land trust.
Mix & Match was initially developed in response to the housing crisis exacerbated by the 2021 Dixie Fire in Plumas County. It has since been developed to support communities across California and beyond.
